Chronic primary immune thrombocytopenia

Chronic primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), is a bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot as it should. This is due to a low number of blood cell fragments called platelets or thrombocytes. Platelets stick together (clot) to seal small cuts or breaks in blood vessel walls and stop bleeding. Without enough platelets, bleeding can occur internally in the body or under or from the skin (external bleeding).
